DW 4 Sept. 2018 and ANSAmed 4 Sept. 2018 report that heavy bombardments in Idlib are noew being performed by Russian fighter jets despite warnings from the White House.
Updates will be posted here.
The Daily Caller 4 Sept. 2018: Trump’s warning appears to carry the threat of military action after he previously struck the Syrian regime twice since his presidency for use of chemical weapons. In both cases, the president warned the Syrian and Russian regimes that these actions will not be tolerated on the battlefield.
Sputnik 4 Sept. 2018: It appears that the State Department is expanding the White House’s red line. While Trump cautioned against a “reckless attack,“ the State Department, in conjunction with the Turkish Foreign Ministry, is calling “any Assad military offensive” in Idlib “unacceptable.”
ANSAmed 5 Sept. 2018: The US will be holding a Security Council meeting on Syria on Friday to address the situation in Idlib.
US ambassador Nikki Haley: The president (Trump) says to Iran, Russia and Assad, don’t go there. Do not let a chemical attack happen on the people of Idlib”.
”If chemical weapons are used, the United States will respond,” she added.
U-turn of the USA
DWN 5 Sept. 2018: US government tolerates Russian air strikes in Syria.
US Secretary of State Pompeo has stated that the US government agrees with Russia’s assessment that Idlib terrorists are to be fought. (of course a gas attack would change everything!)
I have written about the upcoming Russian Syrian attack on the rebel stronghold of Idlib in Syria.
It is possible that the main assault of the Syrians will soon take place, for since 1 Sept 2018 a huge Russian naval maneuver has been going on in the Mediterranean – to deter the Americans. In addition, the preparatory attacks are alreadyongoing. Will the rebels carry out the poisonous gas attack predicted by the Russians – with subsequent American intervention, as announced by John Bolton?
DWN 3. Sept. 2018: Units of the Syrian Army (SAA) attacked Al-Nusra (Al Qaeda) Front positions on Sunday in the northern Hama countryside, now known as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). Dozens of mercenaries were killed.
News Agency SANA: Rocket launcher ramps of the Islamic Turkestan Party (TIP) destroyed in the village of al-Mashik in the eastern part of the al-Ghab plain. The TIP is a mercenary force from China made up of Uighurs. Hama is the neighboring province of Idlib. The SAA is concentrating on northern Hamas to keep its backs free to the north as part of the Idlib offensive. SAA attacks were also carried out in al-Sermania and al-Qarqour on the administrative border between the provinces of Hama and Idlib. There too rocket launcher ramps are said to have been destroyed.
The Turkish newspaper Evrensel reports that a total of 25,000 Syrian (and Iranian) soldiers are to be deployed as part of the Idlib offensive. In addition, the Orthodox Christian divisions Mhardeh and Suqaylabiyah, the Palestinian militia Liwaa al-Quds, the Baath Brigades and the National Defense Forces (NDF) are deployed.
They are facing: the mercenary troops al-Aqsa Front (IS allies) and HTS (al-Qaeda allies), Junud ash Sham (Chechens) and the Uzbek al Qaeda troop Katibat Tawhid wal-Jihad, the Chinese mercenaries Troop Islamic Turkestan (TIP) party. The Uzbek troupe Katibat al-Imam al-Bukhari (KIB) will also be in the ranks of the mercenaries.
All mercenary forces that face the Syrian-Russian offensive in Idlib are considered terrorist organizations in the US. This is from a list of the US State Department.
The Guardian 1 Sept. 2018
Russia softens up west for bloodbath it is planning in Syria’s Idlib province.
Disinformation is rife about US plots and rebels’ supposed use of chemical weapons as Putin prepares for final victory
“To justify attacking Idlib, the regime often claims the province is full of terrorists but the truth is the vast majority of the population are civilians. An offensive is predicted to displace more than 700,000 people and create a humanitarian catastrophe for hundreds of thousands more,” a spokeswoman for the Syria Campaign said. Up to 1.6 million people in Idlib were already in need of food assistance, she added. On Friday, meanwhile, rebels reportedly dynamited bridges in the south of the province to slow regime advances.
Major-General Igor Konashenkov, the Russian defence ministry spokesman, recycled this fake news angle last week, claiming that fighters belonging to the main jihadist group, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, had smuggled eight canisters of chlorine gas into a village near Jisr al-Shughur, south-west of Idlib city. Their plan, he said, was to stage a chemical weapons atrocity and blame it on the regime, thereby inviting renewed western intervention.
A distracted Donald Trump has shown no interest in toppling Assad. He has ended support for rebel groups and given Vladimir Putin, Russia’s president, a virtual free hand. Airstrikes by the US, France and the UK after Assad’s chemical weapons attack on Douma in AprilWEBLINK proved to be an ineffective one-off. Trump has turned his back on Syria and plans to pull out the remaining US special forces fighting Islamic State as soon as possible.
Opinions divided about that: “While President Trump has signaled many times that he’s eager to pull the US out of Syria, many members of his administration don’t feel the same way, and it appears that despite his best efforts, they’re pulling the strings behind the scenes. Regime change is the ultimate goal in Syria.”
Since the beginning of his presidency, Trump has authorized two missile strikes on Syria’s Khan Sheikhoun and Douma under the pretext of unconfirmed reports accusing the Syrian government of the use of poisonous substances against civilians.
The fear now, shared by the UN’s Syria envoy, Staffan de Mistura, is not so much that such obvious false flag operations will be believed, but that Assad intends to resume chlorine attacks and then claim it is all a rebel stunt.
In order to vindicate the 2015 intervention, ensure Assad’s survival and seal an epic Russian strategic victory over the US, Putin requires physical control of Idlib.
One must bear in mind that a lawfully elected Syrian president has invited Russians and Iranians to help – and that the US which started this disastrous war has not been invited and thus is illegally present in Syria. Had it not been for the US and Israel, there would have been no Syrian war, no ISIS, no Al Qaeda.
The US has absolutely no right acc. to international law to be present in Syria – nor to train and equip the rebels against a sovereign state.
